Posts Tagged ‘The Mister’

Since you received a post on Tuesday, I figured why not treat you to one today. Then, you’ll receive something from my bounty everyday this week. What’s mine is yours.* So, here are some random thoughts for you to ponder.

This is the best use of $13.99 in awhile.

In the words of Ms. B I’m still “crazy in love” with Jonathan Adler’s Bond Console.

These shoes should get me out of my “flat funk.”

Image taken in our hall with my phone – sorry for the bad quality

They were purchased at a Ross Dress for Less in Oklahoma City. They were less than $20.00. I am very tall in them. I walked into the kitchen and realized we needed to clean the top of the vent.

The Mister purchased me this necklace.

He is a nice boy. It goes with everything. I get tons of compliments on it. While visiting a client every woman (seriously each one) said something about it.

Have you purchased or received anything new that you would like to tell us about? What’s your favorite track on Beyonce’s album? Have you been a Ross Dress for Less?

I hope you enjoyed The Mister’s post yesterday. The three photos were from Jenny with Little Green Notebook’s blog about a young couple featured in the NY Times. The NY Times feature can be here and is about decorators and their fees.  I like the space and wanted The Mister’s opinion, so I gave him the blog assignment.

Here is my response:

  • The Mister recognizes that he does things at his own pace. Maybe he’ll pick it up.

  • He seems to think his “no more pillows” request is a good idea. Hmmmm…bad…me no like.

  • Stripe walls were a trend last year. I liked this wall but many examples I questioned. I never saw someone say they make a wall look fat. Not one person, until my husband.
  •

  • I’m interested in what apartment he stayed in during college that had a latin pool boy.

  • I think they use real fruit in photo shoots. However, he asked a good question.

  • The furniture does not have to face the television. They were creating a conversation space. When the television isn’t on you can have conversations. They’re nice.

  • Yay for natural lighting and recognizing pretty furniture can be comfortable. Lovelies, we’ve had a moment.

  • They’re not hiding movies, they’re hiding ugly components. It’s called a skirted table. They’re lovely. You’ll like them.

  • The Mister said, “…the rug, and the walls are pretty neutral, with the pillows and art supplying color. I can see how people like that” That’s good because that is what we’re doing.

Grade: A

He’ll be back.

You may know me from such adventures as “Happy New Year, You Don’t Get to Crap in Your Own House,” “Dammit, That’s Enough Pillows,” “You’re Lucky You’re Not a Plant, or Else I’D KILL YOU,” and “I love you Colonel, and I accept you for who you are.”

I was given three pictures of the same space to give commentary on.  Admittedly, I didn’t know much at all about home décor before I met the Mrs. What I know now is mostly through being subjected to HGTV and Home Goods, and her comments while she/we watch it and shop there.  While I’m still learning about this stuff, I usually just try to work on the projects she tells me to, which I do at my own pace.

The clear lamps would probably be a hit with The Mrs.  There isn’t a recliner, or at least some kind of “man chair.”  The desk looks like something from IKEA, and I bet they have a rule about pillows, too.  You can’t go wrong with just plain old white walls.  I like colors in art and paintings, so I like this room’s art. For some reason, only one painting gets its own light. Why?  I would never approve of discrimination in art lighting.

The stripes makes the wall look fat.  The painting/drawing/whatever of the dude’s head is weird, unless it’s actually of someone they know.  She’s probably says it’s her favorite art project from college, when it’s really a drawing of the Latin pool guy from her first apartment complex before she met her husband.  And this painting doesn’t get a light, either?

I like the bar seating.  (Random thought: Do they put real fruit in bowls for photo shoots like this, or do they bring with them stock fruit they use in photo shots over and over again?)  Just looks like a small little dining area with a weird striped wall behind with a painting of some dude.

I don’t know whether the room is big or if it’s because it doesn’t have a lot of furniture/stuff sitting around.   That chair looks out of place.  The deer antlers on the wall look out of place, and I bet they didn’t kill the deer themselves.  The ceiling looks a little busy, but it’s probably hiding pipes or ductwork. I like the natural light. I’d be afraid I’d break the dining table chairs and the single chair. As a dude that likes TV, I think the furniture is a little awkward if it’s not at least somewhat facing the TV in a room.  Therefore, the direction the chair faces is bothering me a little.

It seems like a nice room.  It’s clean and not junky, with plenty of space.  I think the striped wall is weird, but I don’t get striped walls like that, so it’s just personal taste.  I don’t like the chair in the living room/area, but I guess it helps by not taking up a lot of space.  I like natural light, and the furniture looks comfortable but still nice (sometimes I think those two are mutually exclusive). I guess it looks like most of the furniture, the rug, and the walls are pretty neutral, with the pillows and art supplying color. I know this from HGTV training.  I can see how people like that.  The TV should be mounted on the wall, and eventually get a regular TV console or cabinet of some kind, as the current set up doesn’t go with the rest of the room.  What movies are they trying to hide under the TV? I condemn the discrimination of lighting only one piece of wall art in the room.  Doesn’t the Latin pool guy at least deserve to have his own light, too?
