Last week, I had to go to Southwest Florida for a client and The Mister came along.
He never gets to come with me on the road, so it was nice having him around. Plus, I was able to get a lot done with him acting as my assistant. We stayed in Naples and quickly realized it was a great time to be there. I assumed that it must not be a busy time for the area when I was able to stay at their Waldorf Astoria under my per diem. Turns out, after speaking to several business owners and such, their season is December through Easter. The summer is too hot (though we didn’t think it was that hot) for most tourists and many people encouraged us to come back in October/November. They said it was “beautiful” weather and nobody in town.
There was nobody on the beach. We saw maybe 20 people on the whole shore. It was awesome. I almost didn’t wear my sundress over my bathing suit while trekking to my umbrella.
Naples and Ft. Myers are full of shopping, including furniture consignment shops. We didn’t have time to go to many, but I made a point to go to Goodwill and Salvation Army. However, I didn’t find any treasures. Some of the pricing surprised me.
This was a cute piece of art but it was $99.99.
This set of chairs was $149, which I thought was reasonable. It’s more than what we’d usually see in Nashville, but the chairs were in good shape.
The bamboo magazine rack was $18.
This table and chair set was $299.99.
Additionally, we went to J. Mark Eclectic Home. I hadn’t planned on going there but The Mister spotted it and said, “It says eclectic home. I think you should go.” The man knows me well. Sadly, they do not have an online shop. The link is their Facebook page, but I took photos of their goods.
Yes, this bed rocks. I was drawn to it. I’m not sure it was because I was reading 50 Shades of Grey (which I can’t say I’m a fan of – more on that later) or because I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s a guest bedroom bed. I could not sleep in it on a full time basis. Too many ways to injure yourself and I scar easily. I don’t need any permanent marks that have to be explained “Well, my bed was rocking…”
I liked these chairs. They had three legs.
The homes were either spanish or mid-century. There was little architectural difference in between.
There was some beautiful landscaping.
If you go, we strongly encourage you to go to Lindburgers & Bottles. We went twice. I had The Farm and the Pesto and Goat Cheese. The Mister had the Twice Baked Potato and something else that was delicious. Great service and amazing burgers. I took no photos because I was too busy eating.
Shove it in your face.
