Creepy or Cute: Pug Pagoda Pillow

While on the search for fun fabric, I found this.

I knew, right away, that y’all needed to see it. So, now it’s time for you to cast your vote.

I’m all over updating our bedroom, hence the curtain update. However, I’m not in the mood to repaint the room. I like the color we have, it’s a neutral with a pink undertone (as pink as I think The Mister will let me go) so I need to match it to something. Our current headboard matches it as did our previous curtains. In fact, they were perfect matches. That’s why I’m not counting those pieces as goners. I just want something fresh.

Pillows are the quickest way to make things match up or “blend.”  Of course, I’m thinking of fabric I’ve lusted over and here are my options for you to weigh in on.

1. Chiang Mai – This fabric is crazy expensive and has been insanely popular for a few years. It has a cult like following. I’ve always coveted it for curtains but have refused to pay for the yardage. I’m just not comfortable spending $1,500+ on curtains. If that’s not something you’re concerned about then we should talk. However, I was thinking I’d buy a set of pillows. The set is still not cheap.

2. Sunara  – Once again, not cheap and from F. Schumacher. I could buy three of these for the price of the set above. I don’t need three. I’m just letting you know for your benefit and price comparison. I feel like if i looked hard/long enough I could find a knock off of it. Have you seen anything?

here

Additionally, I can buy a yard of  either fabric the price of the pillows. The one yard of Chiang Mai is ~$30 cheaper than the made set. The one yard of Sunara is the cost of one made pillow. Will my pillows be as nice as their pillows? Absolutely not.

I know which way I’m leaing, but let’s take a vote on which pattern you like the most.

I’d say we need to keep this quiet but The Mister has been busy and hasn’t been keeping up to date here. (Insert side eye)

Y’all were helpful with my last This or That and were right, the dots needed to go. However, you’ve likely noticed the dots have shown up as the background of the blog. Today’s This or That is between two pairs of cermaic figurines.

This

This is a vintage pair of California pottery of flamingos. Understandably, they are kitschy. However, I do love flamingos and a controlled amouint of kitsch. They are 10″ high and 4″ at their widest point. $58.00 for the pair.

That

That is a pair of Staffordshire dogs. They are 9.5″ tall, 7″ wide and 2.75″ deep.  Right now they are $31.00 but there are a couple days left on it. I have wanted a set of Staffordshire dogs for sometime.

I love pockets. I wanted my wedding dress to have pockets. Sure it was designed after Grace Kelly’s dress but I wanted pockets. That’s because though I was well-raised and you’d be hard pressed to find someone that enjoys etiquette as much as I – I don’t always behave like I’m supposed to.

I should behave like this:

However, I have my moments:

The top photo was seconds after the last one. See how quickly I can “straighten up.”

My momma said no to the pockets, so the bridesmaids dresses had them instead. They came in handy. That’s because pockets can come in handy just about anywhere and that’s why I like wall pockets. They can hold small plants like succulents or ivy. However, they can hold or contain lots of stuff.

  • writing utensils
  • candies
  • remote controls
  • bobby pins
  • jewelry
  • keys
  • toothpicks
  • loose change
  • scissors
  • Q-tips

I’m glad to see West Elm bringing back the wall pockets.

Not surprisingly, I may prefer vintage ones. Here are some of my favorite finds from the internets.

I’d like a collection of wall pockets, but I really don’t need to start that. However, if you have that in your life or have space for it, I’d like to talk to you about it and see some photos.

Sad day…

I found this set of lampshades and was super excited.

That was until I noticed all the water stains. (Insert sad trombone sound) They have some other signs of wear, but the water stains are my stopping point. I looked up a few things on removing water stains from lamp shades (here, here and here) but for $85.00 and $30.00 in shipping I’m not willing to risk it. However, I’m sure they will haunt me and cause me to search for more remedies.

Now, that you’ve rang in the New Year you likely need a new calendar. Here are some options:

I love that it’s a tea towel.

This year I am using Planner Pad for the first time.

It was suggested by a friend of mine and I’m so far enjoying it. There is some information out there on it (including strange helpful videos on YouTube) but I’ll share my information when I have more usage under my belt. Until I use it to it’s entirety I’ll use this calendar.

The World Series is over and The Colonel is happy about it. He had a hard time with The Mister screaming yelling “Get out! GET OUT!” He may have run around the house with his ears pulled back. (I’m talking about The Colonel, but The Mister applies to the running around part.) I don’t know much about baseball, as you know, but I’m glad The Cardinals won. Yet, The Mister is much happier than I. So, to celebrate I’m sharing some cardinal inspiration photos.

Etsy going ons

After yesterday’s post, I searched through Etsy to see what else was going on. Here is what I found:

yellow leather bangles with silver tube beads

vintage lucite basket

feathered hat

pair of mid-century lamps

vintage 60s watercolor dress
Ignore this woman’s hair.

pink crystal gilt sconces

Have you purchased anything from Etsy? Do you have any favorite shops? Do you dislike the dress? I’m on the fence.

I purchased a pillow off of One Kings Lane. I know…I know…but I did. I purchased it while The Mister was mowing the lawn and didn’t say anything. The package came in and I quietly placed the pillow into it’s new habitat.

I enjoyed it because:

  1. It’s needlepoint and I love needlepoint.
  2. I had seen it on One Kings Lane previously during their Ruthie Sommers Tag Sale in May. I was shocked to see someone else didn’t buy it.
  3. It’s irises – our state flower.
  4. Purple and gold are my high school colors. Just kidding – kind of. Purple and gold were my high school colors but that had nothing to do with my purchase.

My pillow was in House Beautiful.

That’s right, MY pillow. My pillow is famous, Ladyfriends and Gentlemen. I may print this photo off and frame it. I feel like I’m touching a sacred pillow. Ahhh, tell me Pillow about the day you were in House Beautiful.

Speaking of my love for needlepoint and irises, look what I found on Etsy.

The image and purse can be found here.

Yes, I want this. I could rock it. If I can’t rock it I know what could. What could? My pillow. Duh, because it’s famous.

P.S. I’m posting tomorrow and Friday. Watch out.
