I have a deep want to use Anthropologie’s Blazing Poppies wallpaper.

Wham. Bam. Thank you Ma’am.

I’d love it in a bathroom. I considered it for our bath. However, with the blue tile I decided it would be too much. That pains me to say. However,  it would look better above neutral tile, wainscoting or beadboard. I have a vision and if I had Photoshop I may be able to get it across. Instead, I’m going to show you a mood board because that’s something I can do.

We got a new laptop and feel all fancy. I hope to get Photoshop and go on with my fancy self. Therefore, I’ll look like a fancy blogger lady and more legit with my ideas.

You may know me from such adventures as “Happy New Year, You Don’t Get to Crap in Your Own House,” “Dammit, That’s Enough Pillows,” “You’re Lucky You’re Not a Plant, or Else I’D KILL YOU,” and “I love you Colonel, and I accept you for who you are.”

I was given three pictures of the same space to give commentary on.  Admittedly, I didn’t know much at all about home décor before I met the Mrs. What I know now is mostly through being subjected to HGTV and Home Goods, and her comments while she/we watch it and shop there.  While I’m still learning about this stuff, I usually just try to work on the projects she tells me to, which I do at my own pace.

The clear lamps would probably be a hit with The Mrs.  There isn’t a recliner, or at least some kind of “man chair.”  The desk looks like something from IKEA, and I bet they have a rule about pillows, too.  You can’t go wrong with just plain old white walls.  I like colors in art and paintings, so I like this room’s art. For some reason, only one painting gets its own light. Why?  I would never approve of discrimination in art lighting.

The stripes makes the wall look fat.  The painting/drawing/whatever of the dude’s head is weird, unless it’s actually of someone they know.  She’s probably says it’s her favorite art project from college, when it’s really a drawing of the Latin pool guy from her first apartment complex before she met her husband.  And this painting doesn’t get a light, either?

I like the bar seating.  (Random thought: Do they put real fruit in bowls for photo shoots like this, or do they bring with them stock fruit they use in photo shots over and over again?)  Just looks like a small little dining area with a weird striped wall behind with a painting of some dude.

I don’t know whether the room is big or if it’s because it doesn’t have a lot of furniture/stuff sitting around.   That chair looks out of place.  The deer antlers on the wall look out of place, and I bet they didn’t kill the deer themselves.  The ceiling looks a little busy, but it’s probably hiding pipes or ductwork. I like the natural light. I’d be afraid I’d break the dining table chairs and the single chair. As a dude that likes TV, I think the furniture is a little awkward if it’s not at least somewhat facing the TV in a room.  Therefore, the direction the chair faces is bothering me a little.

It seems like a nice room.  It’s clean and not junky, with plenty of space.  I think the striped wall is weird, but I don’t get striped walls like that, so it’s just personal taste.  I don’t like the chair in the living room/area, but I guess it helps by not taking up a lot of space.  I like natural light, and the furniture looks comfortable but still nice (sometimes I think those two are mutually exclusive). I guess it looks like most of the furniture, the rug, and the walls are pretty neutral, with the pillows and art supplying color. I know this from HGTV training.  I can see how people like that.  The TV should be mounted on the wall, and eventually get a regular TV console or cabinet of some kind, as the current set up doesn’t go with the rest of the room.  What movies are they trying to hide under the TV? I condemn the discrimination of lighting only one piece of wall art in the room.  Doesn’t the Latin pool guy at least deserve to have his own light, too?

Watching for black mold…ings

Lately, you may have noticed an influx of black in designs featured in shelter magazines. From a post or two in the blogosphere I am not the only one to notice. I have not seen many black moldings, but I am leaning towards them. I come from the land of Reba, my mother, who has always said mouldings and trim match throughout the house. This is conventional wisdom and by all accounts the norm.

I saw a photo of black floorboards and picture railing, there was no crown molding. I thought I had captured this photo, but it looks like I did not. Of course, I can no longer find it. The ceiling and wall were white, the black picture rail broke the color. Personally, I’d do the ceiling white and the wall antique white and let the picture rail break it up. I liked the look very much. I would paint our floorboards and the trim around the doors black but I would not go “all out” and complete it by painting the trim around the windows black. None of my rooms are that large.

I cannot say that I’m brave enough to do this. Truthfully, my trim goal for our  home should be that the whole place has trim and it matches. Have you seen different colored trim in a home or a room? I haven’t. Do I want to be the first?

We are working on our office. It came to us in the same drab brown paint the rest of the house came with. My Mister wanted orange, and it is one of my favorite colors, so I agreed. However, it was a bit much. Sadly, after we did all the hard work of painting it-it was too much to take with our plans of “throwing” all our art on the walls.

The orange was fighting for attention with our pieces. Therefore, we primed and painted everything a pale gray with a hint of blue. We have started grouping pieces and we are already nervous about running out of space. We are mixing our pieces together, so there is no true rhyme or reason besides trying to space out frames.

Here is some of my inspiration:

Photo from Design Hole Online. They also have “7 ideas for hanging art in a grouping” at this link.

I really like the last photo. However, our frames are not identical nor are our prints within the same color palette.

Our office photos to come next week, hopefully.
