I’m tardy posting this, but it’s better late than never. The Mister and I went on a vacation the weekend before Christmas, December 15th through 19th. This marks off number 16. We planned our flee/journal/escape in June. We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn off of West 35th. You should go there. They were super nice. (Bonus points that cannot be turned in for anything go to Ryan and Tammy.) Seriously, I travel pretty frequently and they were the some of the best customer service I’ve seen in any hotel.

There is no way I can share all the photos in one post. So, you’re gonna get a series. We had a great, super, marvelous time. We need another vacation.

First, we rode with Vicky Yates. She dresses looks different when she’s not scaring old folks in news reports in “real life.”

We ate some awesome food.

Don’t mess with The Mister’s sammich.

Ignore the abundance of pepper flakes. The top fell off the shaker.

Our favorite pizza place is Saluggi’s. That’s where we are in the photo above. We found it randomly during our honeymoon and we ate there three times our last trip. Go there. You’ll owe us later.

We rode the subway a lot.

I promise I didn’t use the restroom.

I just sent the photo to my mother to freak her out.

Overall, we have only three photos of The Mister and I together. None of them are good. They are all from bad angles and taken by us. However, here is one of them.

We were lucky with the weather as it wasn’t snowy and super cold. However, it still put us in the holiday spirit. We’re now talking about going away for holidays more.

Posts on window displays and purchases to follow.

It’s exactly one month after Christmas. I find it hard to believe. This past year we used our white tree, opposed to the green tree for Christmas. Here is where we started.

We put a bunch of ornaments on it and it could have used more. My feeling towards Christmas trees is typically “More is better.” I can always add ornaments. You need a good mix of color and reflective. I like clear and/or mirrored ornaments shoved in first to create depth and a reflective surface. Then, I was able to find around seven boxes of Christopher Radko’s reissued Shiny Brite, plus The Mister’s mother found some older glass ornaments.

Some of the Radko Shiny Brite I found

The box of ornaments from The Mister’s momma

Of course, we had my other Radko ornaments and family ornaments to add. Then, I found some glittered curly sticks, red bows and some clear ball picks. I decided “Why not?” and loaded it on.

Here are some up close photos:

This is probably my favorite photo.

Next year, I will be better about taking better count of what we put on it. I’ll go for a step-by-step run down.

It’s almost time for Santa Claus to come to town. I’m sure he’s checking his list, so you may want to add these stocking stuffer items to it. All items are from Etsy and direct links are found under the photos.

It’s beginning to look a lot like that time of year where everyone is trying to out do others. Whether it is their neighbor, co-worker, other blogger, The Ghost of Christmas Past they are challenged in a Spirit Showdown. Between family gatherings, buying last-minute gifts wrapping presents you purchased well in advance and overall holiday hoopla I’m sure you have tons of time to decorate for the Christmas holiday. You and these people:

I bet they even grew the greenery themselves. They’re probably organic herbs, so you can reuse them by trying them on a salad or something. We’d put it on pizza in our house because they’re more popular than salads.

I actually thought about doing gift topiaries, but I had too many questions.

Questions included:

  • What kind of paper did they use?
  • Do I glue them all together?
  • How hard is that to store? They better be reuseable if not for me, for the earth.
  • Do you use boxes or something more solid like foam or plastic boxes as the packages?
  • What the hell am I thinking?

If I do them next year, I’ll keep you posted. You can come over and we’ll do it together since we have so much time on our hands.

I’m going to assume everything has been replaced in this room to be a Christmas item. That or they keep dolls by the fireplace and baby buggies on their mantle year round. Either way, I don’t care for it and find it borderline creepy.

There are three trees and an unidentifiable number of poinsettias in this abandoned boat. It’s pretty but I’m concerned why they’re encouraging people to go onto thin ice or into extremely cold water. At the holiday party everyone has to guess how many poinsettias are in the canoe. Go out there to get a good look. And die or at least become really sick.

They took the themed food too far. What kind of meal is this?
I would want to leave this party and maybe check out the neighbors with the boat we just saw.

When this cat claws your face off, you deserve it.
Is it just me or does this cat look especially angry?

I don’t put much trust in cats and am aware they especially do not appreciate outfits. I wouldn’t put The Colonel in a collar that made noise, that would drive me bonkers. I may do this.

Don’t lie. If we do it, you want to see it.

The Mister and I rushed around yesterday to get a few forgotten Christmas things. We returned home and found this.

Gross

Rude

Tacky

Totally not allowed

It appears the holidays are getting to him too. We’re all going a little crazy.

I cannot say I’m much in the holiday mood. I’d rather lounge around the house and work on some projects than join the hustle and bustle. So, when I walked into the living room and saw the spectacle above I just stared. I was in shock that he acted out and I almost understood.  The holidays can be worrisome and wearing for anyone. I hope you all enjoy the season and you don’t result to licking the couch and climbing to the top of it.

Be good. Be safe. Be lovely.

Tree tradition

My family is not one for traditions. We have a few usual happenings, but nothing set in stone. For a couple years on Christmas Eve, we use to go see a movie. Looking back this is a very odd thing for my parents, my brother and I to do-considering we are not big movie watchers. I cannot think of one time we all sat around at the house and watched a movie. Maybe Disney…maybe.

Since Mister J.Logan and I are newlyweds, we are trying to start our own traditions. This is hard to do. What fits our lifestyle? How must does it cost? How long will it take? What’s the point?

The tree we have is a very nice artificial tree that my parents passed down to us. It is probably one of the most dense trees I’ve seen. The reason we received it is because of its size. The thing is huge. My parents got to the point where they only put up half the tree and tied it to the stair banister. Here is a picture of me putting it up last year:

Notice I’m not even done with the thing. Also, we’d taken quite a few “sticks” in the back towards the wall.

This year I searched for a “slim” tree, but they all appeared thin/lacking in greenery to me. Maybe I’ll get up the day after Christmas and search around. Maybe I’ll get up and eat some of my homemade biscuits. Choices…choices.

Whether we get a slim tree or not, I’m sure the mega tree will stay. It takes an enormous amount of lights (it’s before the concept of pre-lit) and takes an amazing amount of ornaments. It is as if the tree needs a snack at times and they vanish somewhere inside. A lovely themed or cohesive tree? Forget it. Our tree is ranking among the most random and tacky-tastic. If it can be hung on the tree, you may find it on our’s at some point. I may even start welcoming the re-gifted ornament exchange gift. Homemade from popsicle sticks, yarn and googly eyes? All the better. The only tradition we may have in place is seeing how incredible we make this tree.

J. Logan finds this potential tradition awesome, while I get a little anxious. It sounds like fun, but it also sounds hideous and the tree is it’s too large to hide. I may need to purchase ornament storage more than anything. I have a feeling it may get out of hand.
