Big, hairy animals

I general, I am not a fan of stuffed animals. However, I like big ones. Therefore, when I saw the colorful beasts below at Homegoods I was pretty excited.

They were $399.99 each which stopped some people from petting them. However, in the few moments I was near them they were popular. I imagine they didn’t last the weekend.

Big, stuffed animals are adorable in nurseries. They’re usually giraffes.

Melissa & Doug have a section of “Giant Stuffed Animals” while Land of Nod has two different sized giraffes on their site. They are more life like than many of the others on the market.

The large one (see above) is $399 which makes me pause and recognize that the TJMaxx ones were a good find. I hope someone takes good care of those animals.

Saturday, we went to Clarksville for my daddy’s birthday. We ran into Miss Lucille’s and I liked this mirror.

A few days ago, while doing my grocery shopping at Kroger, I saw this.

20130201-225851.jpg

Insert me stopping mid-aisle and backing up

I was at the Green Hills Kroger so I wasn’t at a Kroger Marketplace. I’ve only been to a Marketplace on the road but know some outlying areas have them. I haven’t seen Kroger sell dishes before and I was real excited about them being Blue Willow. Plus, there sale signs.

20130201-230853.jpg

Here is the only picture of pricing that is readable.

20130204-100958.jpg

After scrutinizing photos, here are the prices I’ve confirmed:

  • Dinner plate $5.24
  • Salad plate $3.75
  • Cereal bowl $3.75
  • Soup bowl $3.75
  • Large serving bowl $14.99
  • 14″ Oval Platter $20.24
  • Covered casserole $44.99

I think a grouping of Blue Willow can be really pretty on a wall.

However, I don’t think it looks great on your back.

What I did this weekend

The Mister and I went to a bunch of antique shops/malls this weekend. Now, you may think that The Mister didn’t enjoy himself or that he was drug around. You’d be very wrong.

20130119-215453.jpg
I told you.

We used to go to shops more often but have stopped as I have the tendency to find great things and I feel this deep need to buy. I’ve been thinking of doing a booth and this trip only encouraged it. Here are some photos of our Saturday.

20130119-221143.jpg

I liked these bookends for $19.00, but I left them at the store.

20130121-154512.jpgHe’s been talking about learning the banjo for years. I’d really like it if he did it.

20130119-221208.jpg

We got pretty excited when we saw these desks. We even took a moment and sat in them.

20130119-221339.jpg

I loved his jorts.

I will post some other finds from this weekend. We bought enough stuff to fill The Mister’s truck. Obviously, the wooden man above came home. I couldn’t leave him behind.

While on the road last week I purchased a rug at the Crate and Barrel rug outlet in Kittery, Maine. There are only a few outlet locations and that’s a damn shame because there were some great finds.

It would match my CB2 acrylic console. I have figured out how to bring home a good number of things on the road, but I knew this was beyond my abilities to fit in a suitcase.

This lampshade was huge and quite on sale.

They had a lot of ornaments.

I especially liked these ornaments.

A grouping of them together would be a cool baby mobile. There is nothing to read into that except that we have a good number of friends that have babies or have one on the way.

I found a 4′x6′ Zola rug and loved the colors. I purchased it and tried it out in the hotel room.

I sent the above photo to The Mister and asked him to measure out a space on our leopard rug.

We tried it out and it was a disappointment.

Good thing I have till early April to return it and will be back in the area in March.  It’s a great rug but I don’t have a place for it. If they had a smaller one I would use it in the kitchen.

2013 Calendars

Last year’s calendar round up was fairly popular, so I’ve kept y’all in mind while searching for my new ones. First, we’ll speak about “work” calendars. Last year, I tried the Planner Pad. I liked the theory of it with a place to brainstorm a list of action items then a place to assign them to specific days. I didn’t like that the calendar times are only by the hour so it’s impossible to write in half hour meetings. It’s not an attractive calendar either and I’d prefer something a tad smaller. So, I’m trying something new this year. Below, are my two options. I simply copied and pasted the wording from an email I sent to a co-worker as we typically order our calendars together.

It’s between two options. Let me present them to you.

Option 1:
Moleskin’s Extra Large Action Weekly Planner. I like that it has a place to list for “to do” items on the same page as the week. Additionally, it’s a fairly good size for dedicated space for a list. God knows I love a list.

Option 2:
Moleskin’s Extra Large Taskmaster Weekly Planner. I had decided on Option 1. I went to buy it then noticed the “You May Also Like” section in my cart. It had me at “Taskmaster.” This one has four pages for each week: two pages for the whole week in a vertical layout, followed by two pages for weekly actions and projects. Two pages for to do lists? What the what?!

I’m thinking Option 2.

Speaking of completely work appropriate, the new “hot guys” calendar is out and the cover has a pug on it.

I’m disappointed in the public for just finding out about someecards, yet I’m disappointed they found out at all. Some days I feel like burning someecards to the ground. Not everyone needs access because most people are not that funny and if you’re constantly making them your Facebook status here’s a calendar for you because there is no hope left.

This weekend, The Mister passed his cold onto me. Before it hit me Saturday night, we went to the Porter Flea. Here are some things I found there.

20121203-130646.jpg

I liked the mix of colors and patterns.

20121203-130753.jpg

20121203-130912.jpg

I didn’t get any of these, but wish I would have spent more time at the booth and left with one.

20121203-131025.jpg

20121203-131038.jpg

Make your own TN themed pillow. I liked the moonshine one.

I bought these two pairs of earrings from RINjuel.

20121203-131757.jpg

I tried on a pair of red glasses from Wink Wink Eyewear. Sadly, I didn’t get a photo but they were cute. Holler Design was in attendance and  I loved their rocker.

It’s really beautiful.

The Mister bought a Nashville print and a couple beers.

Overall, it was a successful outing.  Now, I need to blow my nose.

Recently, I went to Tennessee Antique Mall. I’d been awhile since I’d taken the time to go while in town. This particular mall is not organized. If you’re expecting vignettes and a collected look, it’s not here. If you expect to dig and hunt, that’s more like it. Here are the things I found though I left empty handed.

I liked this lamp. According to it’s tag it is made of chalk.

20121021-051748.jpg

20121026-182600.jpg
My mother hates this lamp. I showed her the photos last weekend. I think it could be cute after a new shade.

This bee sampler would be cute in a child’s room.

20121026-182720.jpg

This coo-coo clock would be cute in your child’s room too.

This whale planter would be great on a bookshelf.

20121026-182851.jpg

I like a brass, bamboo tray. I have one on my vanity, bathroom vanity and my desk at the office.

20121101-143003.jpg

A friend of mine (Hello Sweet Jinanne!) collects old portraits. I always thought her collection was interesting. She told me once that she collects them because she feels like they’ve been discarded. I remember my grandmother had an old photo of a baby and nobody knew who it was. It always intrigued me and I remember being sad that the baby was forgotten. I have a number of family portraits and art in our home now. I would have a hard time finding the wall space but know a wall (hallway) lined with a collection of portraits could be really striking.

JCP

JCPenney has really stepped up their game. (I hear you Rhet and The Fat Lady.) I’ve never been a fan of “JCP” and have, in fact, made fun of the store. However, with the CEO that first revamped their style and hired Ellen as a spokesperson I noticed that I would shop there. Like I’d make a trip to go and not just to look at curtains.

I recently found out that along with the new CEO they’ve gone back to weekly sales. I didn’t realize that and held onto last week’s sales ad, but here are some cute examples I’m not loosing it pieces from inside.

20120910-203444.jpg

20120910-203500.jpg

20120910-203517.jpg

I’m buying these shoes from this week’s ad. $37?! Done if they’re as cute as I hope. They could be great travel shoes.

20120910-203749.jpg

Little Maven by Tori Spelling is introduced and these clothes are adorable.

20120910-203908.jpg

Then, I got a catalog in the mail with prices effective till September 16.

20120910-204242.jpg

20120910-204303.jpg

20120910-204357.jpgOverall, I’m intrigued enough to make sure to go by this week. I’ll keep you posted on my finds or keepers – if any. Now, can we all agree that the top of our dining table needs to be painted? I don’t care for the honey color. Please help me convince The Mister that paint needs to happen.
