How’s everyone adjusting to 2013?

1. Dressing up Having to wear more than jeans the week after the holiday season is inconsiderate of HR departments everywhere. This week, and most of January, we should be encouraged to wear yoga pants. Everyone has cried, yelled explicatives or both at the scale. So, yoga pants are good for the soul and should encourage people to work out. Take that to your Wellness Initiative. You can’t forget your work out clothes, because you’re wearing them.

2. Starting a new day planner/calendar is great. The Taskmaster is treating me well and things are being marked off the to do lists with great enjoyment. I’m still trying to decide how to use all four task spaces but I’m sure I’ll figure that soon enough. Currently, they’re personal items, work items, personal project management and work project management.

3. Our backsplash will be finished tomorrow. That’s right, we’re almost done with our mother lovin’ kitchen. Y’all are gonna get an earful with the breakdown of why it’s taken so long. Here’s a preview.

4. This weekend we’re celebrating The Mister’s birthday. He’s a New Years baby so all resolutions/goals are on hold till after these festivities. This isn’t exactly true as I have done Zumba twice and I’m sure those two times totally negate the cookie I ate at Bricktops and the cupcake from GiGis. I’m making his request of mashed potatoes and meatloaf. No desserts.

Have a great weekend. My travel schedule really picks up this month and I’ve decided to share more road stories here, as it was nice to have a recap of some recent trips. So, stay tuned.

I hope all y’all got some goods and good cheer Christmas Day. I got some things and I’ll share some of my wish list items I received.

First, I received Zumba Exhilerate. I asked for it for multiple reasons.

  1. I’ve been calling myself “plump.”
  2. I have some clothes I’d like to wear.
  3. I tried Zumba once and felt like an idiot. I would say I have average to potentially (considering how many drinks I’ve had) above average rhythm for a white girl. However, I went to a Zumba class a few years ago and after a few missed steps in super crowded room I decided to count off with my own mixture of the mashed potatoes combined with a little bit of the running man. I knew I needed to do this in the comfort of my home. This is especially true because it comes with a set of jazz toning sticks.

I’m sure this is what I’ll look like in a few months.

Second, I got a composter from here. The Mister was not jazzed (he obviously needed to borrow my jazz sticks) when I opened it at my parents house. My mother thought it was something we both wanted. I feel kinda bad for her as she loves The Mister and he was all “No ma’am, I didn’t know she asked for it.” He got the side eye. Then, my parents and The Mister joined in on “What do you want with a composter?” Suddenly, it became very peculiar that little ol’ me was asking for one. I calmly explained to them that I heard that compost would be great for my pot lab in our shed and they all rolled their eyes.

In all seriousness, I’ve wanted a garden for a long time but I question it. The Mister was quick to remind me that mosquitos are my #1 fan and the sun is my #1 enemy. My mother nodded in agreement and then told me to tell everyone that I got a composter when they ask. I didn’t remind her than I’m not in middle school and people don’t ask me that, so I’m sharing this information here. Does it need to go back? Am I being naive?

Third, The Mister gave me a t-shirt from Natalie Dee. It has this printed on it.

I’ll wear it after I’ve done some Zumba.

A friend of mine recently received a toilet seat cover as a Christmas gift. This was not a joke present either. I didn’t realize that toilet seat covers were readily available. So, obviously, the next logical step was for me to go to the internets in search of them. What I found is disturbing.

There seems to be a trend of toilet seat covers that decorate both sides of the lid.

There is also a trend of people that decorate the whole toilet.

Plus side: the Santa suit rug looks like it may be comfortable for when I’m kneeling on it after too many libations

I asked The Mister, “How would you feel about peeing into this toilet while making eye contact with a reindeer?”

All these toilet seats really put me in the spirit. So, I made this for you after finding this beautiful cover.

We liked getting away last year during the holidays. So, this year we decided to go to New Orleans during Thanksgiving. It was a good time and we really enjoyed it.

We had plenty of these.

I liked them a lot.

We saw the typical sights.

We shopped on Magazine Street, caught a parade and ate a bunch. We look forward to going back. I’ll share more of the trip later. Right now, I’m still trying to get over this cold.

I ate nothing but salads this weekend. That’s a lie. I ate at The Southern on a double date with my girl Jenn and her husband Neal. (Are any of your husbands growing hair for Movember? Are ladies allowed to participate in this whole “not shaving for the month” thing?) Let’s move on. I ate mostly salads this weekend.

This was my salad inspiration.

It was in preparation for this week and all the other holiday festivities coming our way starting tomorrow. I hope all y’all have a wonderful Thanksgiving. I may not know you, but I hope the best for you and yours.

I’m to provide a “carved” pumpkin for my company’s Halloween party. However, the last time I’m in the office before the party is the 19th. Nobody wants a smelly pumpkin lying around, so I’m offering up a craft pumpkin. This is best for everyone. It can be reused and it doesn’t involve knives. I have some good pumpkin inspiration here and here. (They’re popular posts.) Here is this year’s batch of inspiration.

I’d prefer to make something that can be used for “fall” instead of just Halloween. However, the ideas I have in my brain and elsewhere are Halloween specific. You got anything?

I know you’re as excited as I am to be back at work after the holiday. Let’s not talk about it and look at some pretty pictures. In honor of Independce Day here is a collection of blue and white bedrooms. After all, I’m sure we all would prefer to be in bed.

Though the Fourth of July is a fun holiday it can be dangerous. The mixture of extreme heat, alcohol, fatty foods and fireworks can make people go cray-cray. Be sure to post this with your first aid kit.

Additionally, be sure to add Capri Suns to your first aid kit.

Have a fun and safe Fourth of July!

With the Fourth of July coming up, it’s easy to become patriotic. I’m not sure what the word is for when you become proud of your state/hometown, but you should do that too. Here are some items to help you with that.

Tennessee is the best. Obviously. It’s the only ten I see.
I recognize how awful of a joke/pun that is.

I have a necklace in the shape of Tennessee, pre-Etsy, but I like this one better. Now, it’s so much easier to find that stuff.

I had to throw something in from Raygun.

June 9 is International Yarn Bomb Day. Here are some images from past years.

I don’t know how to knit or crochet, but I’d like to see some of this bombing. However, here are some projects even I could do if you want in on the action.

Do you know how to knit or crochet? Are you participating? I wanna see someone doing this. I think I’d make jewelry (necklaces, bracelets) for some statues. Maybe clothe the naked dancers on Demonbreun.

I couldn’t reach all of them, so it could just be a lot of ankle bracelets. Ankle bracelets are all the rage.
