I finished upholstering our headboard. Here’s a sneaky peak.

headboard against curtains

We have a load of dirt (a whole truck of it) showing up this morning. We’re planting boxwoods and working on our landscape. Obviously, my house is going to look like this after this weekend.

Churchill cottage, birmingham

That would be the Best. Weekend. Ever.

This is still on clearance.

I want two, because I need more accent tables.

It’s gone down to $49.98 since this originally posted. Oh y’all. The temptation.

The past few weeks have been a blur. I ask that everyone schedule their annual physical, have patience as the blog goes through some big changes and it would be pretty swell if you would consider being part of this study.

We’re I’m playing a game called “Table Switcheroo.” It involves me changing the tables around our living room/main room of the house’s couch. There have been a few options, but I think I’m sticking with the small round campaign ones.

First, I cleaned off the lucite console and lugged it over.

Too big.

Then, I went decidedly smaller.

We will discuss the awesome lamps later.

We’re sticking with these for awhile.

I like their smaller scale. The room feels lighter. However, they’re half the size of what we used to have there. I’m sticking with them as I believe their scale is fine. Here are some pretty photos that show I’m right – little tables by sofas work.

Oh, sit on it

West Elm just finished a 15% off sale on their upholstery. Originally, I had my eye on the Victor Armchair. It has great lines but the plain fabric leaves something to be desired. So, I was crazy for the flower print by Sarah Campbell.

Baby got back.

The Mister and I went to West Elm as I wanted to see this chair in person and purchase throws for our current chairs. I was disappointed that they don’t carry this chair because it’s considered a custom piece. Therefore, it cannot be returned. Even more upsetting, they don’t have fabric samples. So, it’s a gamble and one that we didn’t take. It’s so beautiful and I love the shades of green. Maybe one day they’ll have a pillow. I doubt it, but I’m bummed out that I didn’t even get to molest it touch the fabric.

We did end up buying some chairs. We bought two leather Sedgwick Chairs.

Sedgwich recliner

Y’all, they’re seriously comfortable.

sedgwick recliner open

 They’re recliners.

The Mister has wanted a recliner for a long time. He had one long ago but it was massive and The Colonel liked to “make out” with it. This means that he licked it. I called it “The Potato” and once we moved into our house we gave it to his brother. It fit in our apartment, but it took up a huge amount of our living room in the house. The 1950s were not prepared for The Potato. I’ll have to find a photo for y’all and I must show you what the new chairs look like when the second one comes in.

I’m trying to come up with ideas on what to do with our television in our living room. My current idea is to surround it with a bookshelf or built in. Here are my inspirational photos.

I like these bookshelves the most.

Of course, I just like this room. Big gold mirror. Clear coffee table. Garden stool. Books everywhere. All of it. However, we couldn’t do a series of bookshelves. We don’t have the space. I just want the one.

I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

I think The Mister could make it. I don’t want anything fancy and these instructions/directions seem like something we could use.

I attended the 2013 Antiques and Garden Show last Friday. Not only did I attend the show, but I attended a lecture by Bunny Williams. Whenever I find my notebook that I took with me, I’ll share some quote from it. The show was in honor of Albert Hadley and rightfully so.

20130215-201700.jpg

The entry (seen above and Vine video  here) was designed by Jonathan Savage.

I met Jonathan last year at the show. He sat next to me during the Eddie Ross lecture and I started conversation by asking if he wore an orange scarf the day before during the Miles Redd lecture. He asked me if I asked about folding screens during the Q&A and I had. He gave me his card, which I misplaced. I’m terrible with names and finally found it months later. I deemed too late to reach out and that I’d look straight up stalky. This year, I stopped to take a photo of the entrance and he recognized me. I recognized him too, but since he’s cooler than me, I didn’t think he’d remember me. I didn’t realize he did the entrance and it looked great. He called me out for never calling him. I deserved that. I’m obviously a fool.

There were some great gardens. Below are links to the Vine videos I took of each and it appears I missed Garden 1.

There were some amazing things for sale. The photos are not nearly inclusive of all the goods.

These WWI leg splint were gorgeous as art.

20130215-210628.jpg

There was gorgeous lighting.

There was a set of these industrial sconces. They had a great green color and great for a kitchen.

20130215-211736.jpg

This chandelier was sold and located in the Artifacts booth. Artifacts is located in Nashville and you can look at a small sampling of their offerings on 1stdibs here.

20130215-211749.jpg

This piece was not sold and was $1,200.

20130215-211800.jpg

I had a thing for dressers – full sized and children’s dresser or salesmen samples. (Vine videos of children’s dressers and salesmen samples here and here.)

20130215-211937.jpg

I liked the vignette below very much. Chinoiserie, leopard print, gold and kelly green furniture? Obviously.

20130218-215116.jpg

Then, I fell in love with this painting below. It’s by William Engle and was found in C. M. Leonard Antiques. The owner there (we’ll say C. M. Leonard) was very nice. I immediately told him that I loved the painting but couldn’t pay $10,500 for it. I was pretty sure he’d be uninterested in me being in his booth, but was very kind and still shared information about the painting with me.

20130218-215140.jpg

I left the booth to sat on a bench and stared at it from afar. I was stalking it like a super creepster.

The only thing I bought were the butterfly taxidermy pieces. The rumor was that next year’s show will be smaller. This year’s show was smaller than last, so I’m curious to what next year will look like.  Hopefully, they’ll still have some fountains in the supposedly shrinking garden area. I love fountains. I could watch/listen to this all day long.

I recently came across this image on Pinterest.

from Shannon’s blog here (You’ll get sucked in)

I’m a fan of that dresser and it’s not as easy as I originally thought to find a dresser with a similar shape/style. However, I found this on my friend Craig’s list.

It’s listed for $300 which is more than $60 and that is what I was thinking. Plus, I’d kinda hate to paint it. I’m going to stay on the hunt for good dresser to paint and someone needs to do it. Will that person be you? It should be.

The chair that never was

Last week I feel in love… with a chair. I was all giddy and like “Yeah baby!” Then, I saw it’s price and knew that we’d never know each other. He was $1,799.00.   So, here is the chair that never was. It was on One Kings Lane and is from Massoud. It was named Li Bai Bergere.

$1,799 is too much for a chair right? I got so excited that I decided to see if this fabric was still available. It’s not.

You know of my love for the Bond Console by Jonathan Adler.

It’s my dream lover. Now, we’ll say in honor of Skyfall even though I had to Google “new Bond movie”, I have rekindled my love for it. Then, I found this dresser on Craigslist.

here

It’s not the same, obviously. However, it’s 1/3 the price. It’s tempting. But, it’s not as tempting as sharing this with you.

You’re welcome!

If you saw/received “Everything Must Go” this is the finished post.

If you’re in the need for some homegoods, I’m your girl. Due to a mixture of circumstances (a passion for decor, changing tastes, combining styles and furniture) The Mister and I have too much furniture and things. So, I’m getting rid of a good number of items. I’m listing them on Craigslist this week.

mid-century coffee table for $50.00

This picture doesn’t show it, but the supports holding the glass will need to painted. We prepped them to paint them white (they were scuffed) but never got around to it. It’s really sturdy and it was awesome for display and storage.

mid-century purple rocker/glider with footstool for $80.00

The fabric is in good condition and I’ve never seen anything like it.

Orange lamp with pink roses for $200.00

Surprisingly, The Mister isn’t sure about us getting rid of this orange flowered lamp. However, we haven’t used it/had a place for at least the past year. It’s in great shape.

Italian Gilt nesting tables for $90.00

One of the first things I ever purchased for our apartment. The top table does have some green on it. That’s why I didn’t list for these (here and here) prices. It is stamped “Made in Italy” and it’s hard to find a full set.

West Elm trestle dining table for $350.00

It measures 60″w X 40″d X 30.5″h and it seats 4-6 people. If this looks familiar it’s because we were going to sell it earlier. Then, decided to “use it” (sit it in the dining room) a little longer. Click here for more photos and information.

Set of mirror and wood side dressers/side tables for $180.00

They were originally $129.99 each at TJMaxx Homegoods and I still see them show up there at times. We’ve used them as side tables in our bedroom and end tables for our couch.

set of flowered art for $60.00

These came from Target a few years ago and were $80.00 each. They have a few small chips.

set of crystal lamps for $40.00

These came from Tuesday Morning and still have the tags on them for $39.99 each. One of the shades has some discoloring from the glue. Frankly, I always just put that shade facing the wall.

We have some more stuff that I’m going to list at the end of June. Some marble tables, more gilt, art, potentially some brass and rugs. So, stay tuned for Part 2.

If you want anything, email me. If you don’t want it, me neither. Duh. That’s why it’s for sale.

Yooohoooo bamboo

I’m happy not just about my cute blog post title but for a Craigslist find.

I’m coming to see you tonight.

I have to say the closed cabinet in the middle and on the bottom is likely not going to stay in our home. However, I have plans for the others. First, they’ll need to be painted. Obviously. Still, I understand if you still think it looks bland, outdated, potentially a problem. So, let me help you.

These make me want to smack my mother even though yesterday was Mother’s Day.

The two colors I’m leaning towards are bright shiny red or dark shiny black. It’ll be shiny. Duh, it’s me we’re talking about.
